Current Monsoon Season Heavy Rains Caused Destruction (23 Dec 2022)

The unusual route and trend of monsoon during June – August 2022 heavily down poured and continues spells over Sindh, Balochistan and Southern Punjab brought devastation and large-scale disruption. The event is one of its kind in known history of the country and Sindh province. Sindh suffered major tangible and intangible losses and damages. 1,330 Union Councils of 23 Districts of the province are badly affected accounting 2,366,393 households, 801 live losses and 8,422 injuries, 436,435 animal loss, 3,777,272 acres of crop area, 1,436,914 fully damaged and 650,272 partially damaged houses. Though last spell of rain lasted in August 2022 but due to stagnant water 156,200 people are still displaced. Till date, 81 Truck Mounted and 102 ground standing dewatering pumps of PDMA are engaged dewatering of stagnant rainwater parts of Sindh.
This mega event stretched the provincial capacity, however with untiring efforts of all stakeholders, relief was provided to affected communities even during the challenging conditions of damaged communication infrastructure and large-scale displaced population. Simultaneous and uninterrupted relief operation was carried out by PDMA and till date 641,305 tents, 2,140,880 mosquito nets, 474,870 tarpaulin sheets, 50,765 kitchen sets, 1,780,603 Ration bags, 1,241,801 blankets and various other rescue and relief items have been disbursed among affectees.
