Updates on Relief Activities - 13 August 2022

In response to continuous rains witnessed by Karachi and other parts of Sindh province, de watering activities continued by PDMA teams at different most critical locations to provide quick relief to the people. Advisor to Cheif Minister on Relief and Rehabilitation Haji Rasool Bux Chandio directed PDMA team to be vigilant regarding any emergency created in the aftermath of rains and perform relief activities on a priority bases where needed. It is further informed that till to date about 20 thousand shelters 50 thousand mosquito nets and over 9000 food packs besides other essential relief items have been given to the District administrations to cater for most critical needs of the affected families.

Updates on Relief Activities - 12 August 2022

PDMA team along with trained operators executed the dewatering activities at different most critical locations to provide quick relief to the people of Karachi after heavy rainfall on late night of 12 August. Moreover, in last 24 hours, PDMA Sindh has further deployed 10 Truck mounted heavy-duty pumps in different districts of Karachi such as two each in Malir, Korangi, Central, East and West. PDMA Director General Salman Shah also visited different sites of Karachi to monitor progress of dewatering activities. In addition to already provided relief in last 24 hours, total 250 tents and 200 Ration bags have been provided to Jamshoro district, 2000 Mosquito nets have been provided to Umerkot and 500 Ration bags have been delivered in Dadu District. It is further informed that Heavy rain spell to be continue in Sindh province until 14 August 2022 with occasional gaps.

Updates on Relief provided - 11 August 2022

After heavy rainfall in Karachi, PDMA team along with trained operators executed the de watering activities at different most critical locations to provide quick relief to the people of Karachi. Moreover, in last 24 hours, PDMA Sindh has further deployed 36 Truck mounted heavy-duty pump in Karachi (34), and one each in Thatta and Badin. In addition to already provided relief 1000 Mosquito nets, 1000 folding beds and 1000 Tarpaulin sheets have been provided to Tando Mohammad Khan district. In last 24 hours there are total 365 people stayed in Relief camp of Noshero Feroz, which includes 87 males, 117 women and 161 children. It is further informed that Heavy rain spell to be continue in Sindh province until 14 August 2022.

Updates on Relief provided - 10 August 2022

PDMA Sindh has successfully implemented the relief activities during Muharram processions in different districts of Karachi, Hyderabad and other major cities of province. In addition to already provided relief 500 more tents have been provided to Tando Mohammad Khan district. Moreover in last 24 hours, PDMA Sindh has further deployed 5 Truck mounted heavy-duty pump in Hyderabad 3 in sukkar and 1 each in Thatta and Badin. As predicted earlier heavy showers witnessed in Karachi and other parts of province on 10 August and intensity of this spell to be continue until 14 August 2022. To handle the current situation, there are total 36 heavy duty dewatering pumps deployed at different most critical locations of Karachi alongwith trained operators to facilitate the district administration and provide quick relief to the people of Karachi.

Updates on Relief provided - 09 August 2022

In last 24 hours PDMA Sindh has distributed total 12 De watering pumps in different districts of Hyderabad (3), South (7), and Jamshoro (2) for removal of stagnant water. PDMA relief activities also continues in different districts of Karachi, Hyderabad and other major cities during Moharram processions. Additionally PDMA Sindh has provided 1000 tents in TMK and 100 tents and 200 Mosquito nets in Jacobabad to support relief work of rain and flood affected people. It is further informed that rainfall intensity will likely to increase from 10th August to 14th August throughout the province. In last 24 hours there are total 269 people stayed in Relief camp of Noshero Feroz, which includes 70 males, 100 women and 99 children.

PDMA Sindh has provided one hundred (100) Tents and two hundred (200) Mosquito nets to district Jacobabad in order to support relief work.

PDMA Sindh has deployed eleven (11) Truck Mounted Heavy Duty Pumps in district South specially on MA Jinnah road to facilitate 9 and 10 Muharram processions and one (1) each in 6 districts of Malir, Korangi, East, Keamari, Central and West to support in removal of stagnant water of rain.

Updates on Relief Activities - 02 August 2022

On the directions of Hon PM, Committee constituted for Sindh Province, comprising Ms Sherry Rehman Federal Minister for Climate Change, Syed Amin Ul Haq Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, and Mr. Kesso Mal Kheel Das Kohistani, MNA, accompanied by DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah visited the flooded areas of District Thatta and Badin. The delegation took arial view of the area for assessing the damages. The delegation was also briefed by the respective DCs of districts during their field visits. They also interacted with the public and their elected representatives for immediate relief requirements. The Committee discussed short and long terms solutions with local political leaders, administration and general public for finding out solutions to reduce the impact of climate induced disasters in future.

Updates on Relief provided (Baluchistan) - 30 July 2022

To help the flood affected people of Uthal, Balochistan, an extra 100 tents from PDMA Sindh have been handed over to Pakistan Navy , in addition to 500 tents, already provided, on the directives of Chief Minister Sindh.

Relief Activities Karachi- 29 July 2022

PDMA Sindh’s nine (09) truck-mounted dewatering machines/pumps are now in use at various sites to support KW&SB for removal of overflowing sewerage water.

Updates on Losses and Damages - 29 July 2022

In current monsoon season heavy rains caused destruction of over 408 kilometer road infrastructure, 5 bridges, 6 shops, 1 hotel and 1 masjid buildings have been damaged in Sindh so far, 193,136 acres of crop area damaged and 383 animals died during current monsoon season, 2849 houses fully damaged and 15794 houses are partially damaged in Sindh, detailed survey underway, 96 precious lives have been lost during this monsoon season besides 60 injured ,45743 households of Thatta, Sh. Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroze, Sukkur, Dadu, Sanghar and Korangi districts are among affectees and 14 people still displaced, 61 Truck Mounted and 61 Ground Standing Dewatering Pumps of PDMA are engaged in clearing of stagnant rain water in various urban areas of Sindh, 8580 tents, 21475 mosquito nets, 20 OBM Boats, 50 Life Jackets, 710 Kitchen Sets, 160 Tarpaulin sheets, 4880 Jerrycans, 110 Water Coolers, 820 Folding Beds, 820 Pillows, 720 Beds Sheets, 45 Daigs of Cooked Food and 300 Ration Bags etc. is part of relief supplied during this monsoon , 500 Tents were delivered to flood affectees of Balochistan on the directives of Honourable Chief Minister Sindh.

On the directives of Hon. Chief Minister Sindh and Haji Rasool Bux Chandio Advisor to Chief Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation, PDMA Sindh has provided 500 Tents to PDMA Balochistan for distribution among flood affected persons of Lasbella cut off from Quetta.

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation alongwith Salman Shah, Director General PDMA visited various areas of Karachi including Korangi, Tower, Sindh Assembly Road and Shaheen Complex and monitored the dewatering of stagnant water.

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation alongwith Salman Shah, Director General PDMA inspected cleaning of Submarine Underpass which has been cleared and is open for traffic. He appreciated the efforts of PDMA team for working day and night to get the water pumped out and making the underpass functional.

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation visited the flooded areas in the Metropolitan City and supervised the on going relief operations by PDMA Sindh. The Advisor to CM also visited the underpasses in Distt South Karachi, where he was briefed by DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah that KPT Underpass has been opened for traffic and the dewatering at Submarine Underpass would be completed soon.
During his visit to urban flood affected areas he said that all available resources would be utilized for Relief and Rehabilitation of affected people of the Province.

وزیر اعلی سندھ کے مشیر خاص برائے محکمہ بحالیات حاجی رسول بخش چانڈیو اور سیکریٹری برائے محکمہ بحالیات آصف علی میمن نے ڈائرکٹر جنرل پی ڈی ایم اے سید سلمان شاہ اور پی ڈی ایم اے کے دیگر افسران کے ساتھ مون سون کی حالیہ بارشوں کے سبب پیدا ہونے والی صورتحال کے متعلق میٹنگ کی۔ اس موقع پر ڈی جی پی ڈی ایم اے سندھ کی جانب سے مون سون کی حالیہ صورتحال سے نمٹنے کے لیے پی ڈی ایم اے سندھ کے کیے گئے اقدامات کے متعلق بریفنگ دی گئی اور بارشوں سے متاثرہ افراد کو پی ڈی ایم اے سندھ کی جانب سے فراہم کیے گئے امدادی سامان (جس میں پانی نکالنے کے لیے ڈی واٹرنگ مشینری، سیلاب سے بے گھر ہونے والے افراد کے لیے خیمیں اور مچھر دانیاں وغیرہ شامل ہیں) کی تفصیلات سے بھی آگاہ کیا گیا۔ اس کے علاوہ مون سون کے اگلے سپیل سے نمٹنے کے لیے مزید اقدامات بھی زیر غور لائے گئے ۔

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to CM Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation presided a meeting on preparedness of Monsoon at Headquarter PDMA Sindh, Rehabilitation Deptt: Govt: of Sindh. The Secretary to Government of Sindh, Rehabilitation Department, Mr. Asif Ali Memon briefed the Advisor about the contingent measures taken for forecasted heavy rainfall in Karachi as well as other parts of Sindh Province.

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to CM Sindh for Relief & Rehabilitation & Mr. Asif Ali Memon, Secretary to Government of Sindh, Rehabilitation Department, holding charge of DG PDMA Sindh to provide truck mounted dewatering pump machines to all seven DDMAs of Karachi Division, Hyderabad, Badin and Sujawal as follows:
15 to Karachi Division (all Seven DDMAs),
Three to DDMA Hyderabad,
One each DDMA Badin and Sujawal.
The Advisor emphasized the officers of PDMA Sindh to remain alert during forecasting period and he also directed to cancel all sorts of leaves & holidays of officers PDMA, Rehabilitation Department.

A meeting to review preparedness for the prevailing heat wave situation across the Province and frequent fire incidents was held in PDMA Sindh Headquarters on 18 May, 2022. The meeting was chaired by Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to CM Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation and attended by Mr. Asif Ali Memon, Secretary to Government of Sindh, Rehabilitation Department, Syed Salman Shah, Director General, PDMA Sindh, Mr. Ghulam Asghar Kanasro, Project Director, Sindh Resilience Project, and Dr. Khanza Sameer Director, MDEHS. The administrative and financial issues, review on progress of Rescue 1122 and Mobile health units were also discussed during the meeting.
The Advisor to CM Sindh directed to take all necessary measures to reduce the impacts of heatwave. He further directed to complete the handing over process of ambulances to Health Department by 30th May, 2022. He also directed MD, Mobile Health Units to ensure early completion of the remaining units and focus on delivery of health services at the doorstep. The advisor at the end emphasised about the purchase of PDMA Sindh Headquarters building during current financial year as approved by the World Bank so that installation of all new systems being procured for Disaster Management Information System and Command and Control Room of Rescue 1122 be carried out in its own premises.

پی ڈی ایم اے سندھ نے مورخہ 29 اپریل 2022 کو پاکستان میٹرولوجیکل ڈیپارٹمنٹ کی وارننگ کے تحت مورخہ 29-04-2022 کو ہیٹ ویو الرٹ جاری کیا ہے کہ سندھ میں شدید گرمی کی لہر کی صورتحال یکم سے 2 مئی, 2022 تک برقرار رہے گی۔ اس کے لیے، PDMA سندھ نے FGRF (INGO)، محکمہ صحت اور DDMAs کے تعاون سے یکم اور 2 مئی 2022 کو (صبح 8:00 بجے شام 5:00 بجے سے) ہیٹ اسٹروک سٹیبلائزیشن کیمپس کا مختلف مقامات پر اشتراک کیا ہے۔

پراونشل ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ اتھارٹی سندھ نے پاکستان ریڈ کریسنٹ سوسائٹی کے تعاون سے ہیٹ و یو سے متعلق ہنگامی صورتحال پر ایک تربیتی سیشن کا اہتمام کی تمام شرکاء نے سرگرمی میں حصہ لیا. سرگرمی میں ہیٹ و یو سے متعلق تمام ہنگامی صورتحال جیسے کہ ہیٹ اسٹروک، پانی کی کمی، بے ہوشی، اور ایمبولینس یا ہیٹ اسٹروک والی گاڑی میں کسی شخص کو منتقل کرنے کا طریقہ شامل کیا گیا.

On the directives of Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation, the relief items including tents, tarpuline, mosquito nets, jerry can, bed sheets, pillows and kitchen sets have been dispatched to the fire prone districts of the Province, i.e. Khairpur Mir’s, Sanghar, Sujawal, Matiari for distribution among affected families, as an immediate relief in case of fire occurrence.

On April 21 2022 numerous fire incidents occurred in various villages of district Tando Muhammad Khan resulting loss of properties . On the directives of Haji Rasool Bux Chandio Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation, DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah has despatched relief material, 82 tents, 328 mosquito nets, 150 folding beds and 200 pillows for distribution amongst affected families.

On April 18 2022 at evening hours, an accidental fire broke out in various villages of district Dadu resulting loss of Lives of humans, livestock and properties .On the directives of Haji Rasool Bux Chandio Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation & Relief Dept, DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah has despatched relief material for distribution to affected families.

PDMA Sindh in collaboration with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), has begun a series of heat-related emergency training sessions for officials from the line departments as well as representatives of civil society. The training sessions are planned to be held from April 18, 2022, to April 29, 2022, at the Red Crescent Training Institute, Clifton Karachi.

WFP Pakistan has disbursed cash of Rs 203.6 Million to 4,556 households under the project titled “Livelihoods Recovery Assistance to People Affected by Floods and Other Shocks in Sanghar and Mirpurkhas Sindh” with technical guidelines of PDMA Sindh and other government line departments and Cooperating Partners International NGOs SIF and HANDS. The conditional cash assistance was provided for the purpose to improve access to food for the most vulnerable and food-insecure people, Rehabilitation of damaged and lost infrastructure and boosted access to livelihood.
Herewith, lessons learnt workshop was held in Karachi on 22 Mar 2022 to discuss the issues, challenges and best practices in the project implementation in Sanghar & Mirpurkhas, attended by senior govt functionaries and senior management of WFP Pakistan and Cooperating Partners.

The Chief Minister Sindh directed PDMA to send relief supplies to earthquake affected districts Skardu and Astore of Gilgit-Baltistan. A convoy of six trucks carrying tents, woolen mattresses, blankets and family food hampers has been sent under the supervision of Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation & Relief.
The Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation & Relief Haji Rasool Bux Chandio has directed DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah to remain in close coordination with Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority.

PDMA Sindh on the directions of honorable Chief Minister Sindh has provided assistance to the rain affected people of Balochistan. PDMA Sindh dispatched 5000 Tents, 10000 Blankets, 3000 sweater, 4740 Stoves and 4700 First Aid kits. Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Relief and Rehabilitation Haji Rasool Bux Chandio supervised entire relief operations for timely delivery to Balochistan.

PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delegation led by Director General Mr. Sharif Hussain visited the Headquarter of PDMA Sindh. Director General PDMA Sindh, Syed Salman Shah briefed the delegation about present endeavors of PDMA and discussed the way forward to combat any kind of disaster. Both were agreed that such discussions shall also be done in future and gain advantage from each other’s experience.
