The Director (Operations) Syed Shujaat Hussain alongwith Team Leader of Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), KMC, attended the International Earthquake Response Simulation Exercise (IERR) arranged by International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG), a global network of more than 90 countries and organization in 1991, under the umbrella of United Nations, during 24-26 November 2011. The World Class Emergency Services Academy and the First United Nations INSARAG Certified Team in South Asia has hosted SIMEX CHINA 2021 at Emergency Services Academy Lahore Pakistan. The Emergency Services Academy which is imparting training to emergency personnel from all provinces of Pakistan.

National Resilience Day was observed by PDMA Sindh today at Marriott Hotel Karachi .This day is being observed on 8th of October every year in commemoration of Earthquake 2005 victims .Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation & Relief Department Haji Rasool Bux Chandio was Chief Guest at the gathering. The Secretary to Government of Sindh, Rehabilitation Department Mr Akhtar Inayat Bhurgary, Director General PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah alongwith other officers of PDMA Sindh, Mr Ameer Haider Leghari, Director Pakistan Metrological Department and representatives of different UN agencies and NGOs were also present. In the end Dua/prayers was offered for martyrs.

PDMA Sindh provided heavy dewatering machines to all 07 Districts of Karachi as well as to Hyderabad District. Moreover 250 plus small dewatering machines have already been provided to all Districts of Sindh. Advisor to CM for Rehabilitation had a detailed meeting at PDMA Office where he directed to take all necessary measure and provide all out support to District Administration. He also directed to ensure functionality of PEOC round the clock and resolve the complaints received at PEOC.

Syed Shujaat Hussain Director Operations PDMA Sindh highlighted the importance of working in a coordinated manner for all stakeholders at a training session/workshop on Fire Safety and Building Codes organized by Fire Protection Association of Pakistan in collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent Society Sindh. Mr Tariq Moeen and Wajahatullah Khan provided technical information on fire protection in Building through informative presentation, videos and checklists. The Workshop was attended by members of Civil Defence, KMC Fire Brigade, KPT, PIA, Forest Department, and KDA. At the end, Kanwar Waseem President FPAP thanked the audience. The distinguished guests distributed the certificates of the course to the participants.

Three Days Training Session on adaption of protection, prevention and response tools in emergencies and disasters (pandemic, drought, floods) in Sindh- 09 July 2021
The Director General PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah addressing to participants at training/workshop on understanding and adaption of protection, prevention and response tools in emergencies and disasters (pandemic, drought, floods) in Sindh, from 7th to 9th July 2021. He said that PDMA Sindh in collaboration with other partners will operate at the provincial level to provide overall leadership and coordination support with the aim to facilitate oversight for effective and timely multi-sectoral prevention, mitigation and response services to women, adolescents and young girls, including ones with different vulnerabilities in the province, during humanitarian and development settings with a special focus on gender base violation and child protection under the overall protection spectrum. In terms of technical support, UNFPA will provide support in GBV, UNICEF in CP and UNHCR in Protection for refugees and information management support for overall Protection Sector Working Group. Member (Operations) Brig Waseem also attended and brief about the aims and objectives of Training/Workshop. Director (Operations) PDMA Sindh Syed Shujaat Hussain and Mr Maqsood Soomro Assistant Director (Operations) also present on the occasion. In the DG PDMA and Member NDMA distributed certificates to the participants.
Two Days Training Session on Emergency Preparedness and Response-07 July 2021
On the direction of DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah Director (Operations) PDMA Sindh welcome to participants of Two Days Training Session on Emergency Preparedness and Response, held on 6th &7th July 2021 Karachi. Member (Operations) NDMA Brig Waseem, also attended the session and briefed about the purpose of training Session. The objectives of the trainings are as follows; • Train relevant government departments, PDMAs, UNICEF and relevant stakeholders on Emergency Preparedness and Response. • Strengthen national capacity to respond to large scale humanitarian emergencies; • Improve capacity of Government departments and other departments for effective and efficient humanitarian response to meet their primary mandate and sector coordination responsibilities; • Improve interagency and inter-cluster mechanism to support the development of national preparedness and response capacities.

PDMA Sindh through World Bank funded Sindh Resilience Project, distributed CBDRM tool kits amongst trained community volunteers of various Districts of Karachi. These volunteers have been trained to respond as first responders in disasters and these tool kits shall help them for an effective preliminary rescue operation.
Meeting with UN Agencies -18 May 2021
DG PDMA Sindh Mr. Syed Salman Shah held meeting with UN Agencies today at his office for preparedness of upcoming monsoon season and cyclones. During meeting, discussions were done in detail on the challenges of urban floodings and displacement of affectees, to which UN agencies assured of their cooperation to PDMA Sindh and agreed on mutual working relationship for betterment of public.

PDMA Sindh in order to combat affects of cyclone in Arabian sea including hot weather spell across the province, has timely issued warnings to District Administrations/DDMAs to adopt preventive measures.Meanwhile PDMA Sindh in collaboration with Al Khidmat foundation has also established camps in Karachi to help public in countering weather spell. PDMA Sindh is utilizing every possible means to facilitate public against cyclone and warm weather.

Minister Rehabilitation Department Sindh Mr. Faraz Dero chaired an important meeting at PDMA HQ Karachi to review the preparations for cyclone in Arabian sea. DG PDMA Sindh Mr. Syed Salman Shah ,representatives of Pakistan Army & Pakistan Navy and officers of PDMA Sindh attended the meeting. Emergency control room at PDMA Sindh HQ Karachi has been activated and staff has been deployed round the clock to monitor the situation, coordinate with Pakistan Meteorological Department and provide immediate assistance of relief items to vulnerable Districts/DDMAs when required.Emergency has been declared at PDMA Sindh and leave of all staff has been ceased.

In order to strengthen communities to act as immediate preliminary responders to disasters, PDMA Sindh through World Bank funded Sindh Resilience Project has trained community volunteers to act as first responders. In order to equip trained community volunteers of UCs Kemari & Ittehad town in Karachi, rescue kits were handed over to them by Deputy Commissioner Kemari & Deputy Director(Ops) PDMA Sindh. DC Kemari while addressing the volunteers lauded their courage and intention to volunteer their services for the well being of communities and assured them of full cooperation by DDMAs and PDMA Sindh in combating disasters together.

PDMA Sindh through world bank funded Sindh Resilience Project has trained community volunteers of Districts Kemari, Korangi, Karachi(West) and Sujawal to respond as first responders to any disasters.In this regard, rescue kits were handed over to volunteers of CERT( Community Emergency Response Teams) in District Korangi at Karachi today.Deputy Commissioner Korangi while handing over the kits to community volunteers appreciated the efforts of PDMA Sindh and assured the volunteers of complete support by DDMA/District Administration.

PDMA Sindh through World Bank funded Sindh Resilience Project(PDMA Component) conducted final session of DRR mainstreaming trainings at Mirpurkhas from 1st Feb to 3rd Feb 2021.A hefty number of participants from various line departments including NHA, Revenue, Local Govt, Irrigation, Works & Services etc participated in the concluding session. During these trainings at all Divisional Headquarters of the Province, participants were given lectures and presentations on Disaster Risk Reduction, mainstreaming DRR in development planning and Disaster Management Information System. These trainings would help in inculcation of DRR culture at grass root level and considering disaster risks in development planning.

PDMA Sindh in order to protect needy people from enormity of cold wave across the province, has dispatched more than 3000 blankets and 1750 woolen mattresses to Districts Karachi(Central), Larkana, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar & Tando Muhammad Khan. These items were handed over to District Administrations for distribution amongst underprivileged.

In continuation to Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction trainings for Government officials throughout the Province, the second session of trainings was held at Hyderabad from 4th Jan to 6th Jan 2021. On concluding day, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad participated in the event and distributed certificates amongst participants.
