Standard Operating Procedures of Heatwave

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for heatwave management to mitigate the growing risks of extreme temperatures. These SOPs provide a structured framework for preparedness, response, and recovery, ensuring coordinated efforts across government agencies, private sectors, and communities. Sindh’s climate outlook highlights distinct heat trends: Upper Sindh faces the most extreme temperatures, often exceeding 50°C, Central Sindh experiences prolonged heatwaves with peaks above 45°C, while Lower Sindh has rising temperatures and humidity, intensifying heat stress. The SOPs emphasize early warning systems, public awareness, emergency response, and long-term urban planning to reduce heatwave impacts and protect vulnerable populations from life-threatening conditions.
