PDMA Sindh through World Bank funded Sindh Resilience Project is conducting trainings of Government Officials on Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction throughout the Province. In this regard, the first session of trainings was held at Karachi from 28th to 30th December 2020.During training, these officias were given lectures on Disaster Risk Reduction, mainstreaming DRR in development planning and Disaster Management Information System.

In continuation to strengthening communities as first responders to disasters, PDMA Sindh through World Bank funded Sindh Resilience Project(PDMA Component), organized a 5 days training session for training of trainers on Community Based Disaster Risk Management at Karachi. On concluding day of training at Karachi, DG PDMA Sindh Syed Salman Shah graced the event as Chief Guest and distributed certificates amongst participants.

PDMA Sindh through World Bank Funded Sindh Resilience Project(PDMA) organized a consultative meeting with line departments on Building Code awareness as a preemptive measure for conceptualization before initiating the trainings on Building Code awareness throughout the Province. A large number of participants from various Cantonment Boards, SBCA, ABAD and PDMA Sindh attended the meeting and presented their ideas/ concepts as a way forward for conducting the trainings.

A large number of participants from various Departments including Sindh Police, Pakistan Navy, Irrigation Department, Education Deptt, Social Welfare Department, SUPARCO, Coastal Development Authority, Pakistan Met Department & Local Govt Department attended the training session. On concluding day Secretary Rehabilitation Department, Riaz Hussain Soomro attended the event as Chief Guest and distributed certificates amongst participants.

NATIONAL RESILIENCE DAY - 08 October 2020
PDMA Sindh observed National Resilience Day today at A.K Khan park, Sea View, Karachi.This day is being observed on 8th of Oct every year in commemoration of Earthquake 2005 victims.Secretary Rehabilitation Department Mr. Riaz Hussain Soomro was Chief Guest at the gathering. The participants of the event observed candle light vigil and 2 minutes of silence to pay homage/show respect to the victims of past disasters while practical demos of rescue & shake out drills were given by Aga Khan foundation. Chief Guest along with other guests also visited various stalls by different NGOs and took keen interest in rescue equipment and print materials on display. In the end, a walk was held joined by a large number of people present at the gathering.

A large number of officers from various line deptts including P&D Deptt,Edu Deptt,Works & Services Deptt,Forest Deptt,Cooperation Deptt, NHA, Transport Deptt attended the meeting. During meeting matters related to importance of DRR in development planning were discussed in detail.

Pakistan has witnessed a massive earthquake on 8th October 2005. In order to commemorate that massive disaster, Government of Pakistan notified 8th October as “National Resilience Day” throughout Country. The 15th anniversary of martyrs of deadly earthquake of October 8, 2005 is being observed across Pakistan including Sindh and as per past practises The PDMA Sindh will also participate in this on Thursday at CBC Park Seaview to pray for Victims and express solidarity with their families.
