Established in 2010 after promulgation of National Disaster Management Act, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority function under Rehabilitation Department, Government of Sindh. A dedicated authority for disaster management was established in purview of smooth inter and intradepartmental coordination, early preparedness for disaster mitigation, prevention, swift response to disasters and early recovery, and rehabilitation on build back better principals. Since its establishment, the authority managed small to large scale disasters including 2010, and 2022 historical floods. In existing provincial disaster management setup, PDMA plan, manage and coordinate and execute at provincial level, while 30 District Disaster Management Authorities headed by Deputy Commissioner of each district in the province functions as forearm of PDMA at gross root level. PDMA Sindh is a progressive authority, and since its emergence, various institutional reforms, expansion of facilities, stocking of equipment and other various capacity development initiatives have been executed to enhance provincial capacity in disaster management.
