VIDEO CONFERENCE MEETING ON PREPARATIONS FOR VERY SEVERE CYCLONIC STORM (BIPARJOY) UNDERCHAIRMANSHIP OF ADVISOR TO CHIEF MINISTER SINDH FOR REHABILITATION AND RELIEF

KARACHI, 10 th June, 2023: Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation & Relief chaired the video conference meeting regrading preparedness strategy for possible disaster impacts of Tropical Cyclone BIPARJOY at the Committee Room of PDMA Sindh today. Mr. Parvez Ahmed Seehar, Secretary to Government of Sindh, Rehabilitation Department, Syed Salman Shah, Director General, PDMA Sindh and the Deputy Commissioners of Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions and other officers attended the meeting.

The meeting was apprised that the Provincial Emergency Operation Center (PEOC) of PDMA Sindh is closely monitoring the evolving situation and tracks of Tropical Cyclone round the clock.

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation & Relief directed the participating Deputy Commissioners to operationalize their District Emergency Operation Center for active coordination with PDMA’s PEOC and other relevant stakeholders. He also advised the DCs to prepare a comprehensive contingency plan for cyclone which should include the areas under threat, along with likely population and the number households of the areas to be affected besides chalking out evacuation plan for the vulnerable population. He emphasized that early warning system be operationalized immediately and all possible measures be taken to avoid venturing of the fishermen in sea till the situation normalizes. He emphasized the DCs of coastal districts including Karachi South, Malir, Keamari, Korangi, Thatta, Sujawal and Badin to keep necessary machinery and staff on standby for mobilizing on short notice. He said that we should be ready for worst case scenario. He directed that all the DCs must ensure proper functioning of Dewatering Machines. The Pumping Stations in the districts must be operationalized and alternate arrangements of electricity be ensured. Keeping in view the possible storm winds, the weak and vulnerable structures including Bill Boards etc. should immediately be removed specially from urban centers.

Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Rehabilitation & Relief directed Secretary to Government of Sindh, Rehabilitation Department to sensitize the relevant authorities for mobilizing necessary machinery and Ambulances to Coastal Districts in case of emergency. He also directed DG PDMA, Syed Salman Shah to devolve a plan for mobilizing Truck Mounted Dewatering Machines alongwith technical staff to coastal districts as per need.
